NAZCCA Climate Awareness Campaign
Internship - Spring 2021
OVERVIEW:
Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance (NAZCCA) is a non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to educating, engaging, and mobilizing people to support strong climate action. NAZCCA is offering an experiential learning opportunity to assist leading a Climate Awareness Campaign in Flagstaff. This targeted educational campaign will focus on food and public health connections to climate change and local climate impacts.
Primary areas of responsibility include working alongside organizers to coordinate NAZCCA’s Climate Awareness Campaign. Intern will recommend and develop outreach strategies, organize a series of workshops to educate and empower residents to take action, and engage the community in the work of the movement for a more just and sustainable city.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
Opportunity to learn about empowering communities, developing leaders, and mobilizing people
Training and experience in organizing and climate advocacy
Understanding the role and tactics of community engagement within grassroots advocacy
Building collaborative relationships with nonprofits and government agencies
Experience learning how one city is working to address climate change in their community through engagement and awareness
How to plan, promote, and organize virtual events (potential for in person events also)
Developing communication and outreach strategies to the general public
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedule, organize, and plan events
Implement strategies to increase community awareness and advocacy
Create educational and promotional materials for campaign
Develop and explore new ways to engage the community
Expand a grassroots network that provides opportunities for supporters to get involved
Develop partnerships with organizations, public entities, and local businesses
Outreach to the public through a variety of means including phone calls, e-mails, writing news releases and contact with the news media, and developing a social media strategy

**During COVID-19, our organization will continue to meet and hold events virtually until such time that it is prudent to allow for physical gatherings.
SCHEDULE:
The internship programs runs between February 1st and April 24th. The term of this internship may be flexible and can be suited to fit the intern’s schedule and availability.
Interns are expected to commit 90 hours within a 12 week period.
Average hours per a week: 7.5 hours
Schedule of hours worked by the intern is flexible and may be tailored to class schedules or other activities.
COMPENSATION:
(Paid) Total compensation for the completion of the internship is $900
Payments to the intern will be made monthly and will be mailed within 5 business days for the work completed the previous month.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Although, not required, preference will be given to candidates with course work in sustainability, environmental science, policy, civic engagement or related fields of study. Undergraduate or graduate students are encouraged to apply. Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Resourceful and energetic with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Ability to take initiative and work autonomously
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Highly-motivated with a passion for engaging and empowering others
Interest in climate change and environmental justice
Preferred:
Uses social media (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/YouTube)
Organizing or campaign experience
A personal computer, access to the Internet, fluency in using Zoom
