City Council Sustainability Procurement Policy

Last year the Flagstaff City Council made a bad decision when it renewed the city’s contract with Wells Fargo Bank, a corrupt and dirty bank. The decision went against the Flagstaff City Council’s goal of net zero emissions by 2030. The city’s contract with Wells Fargo expires in June 2025, which means the city is required to issue a new request for proposals for a servicing bank.

Since the city council's terrible decision last year, Fossil Free Arizona has been advocating that the city update the city purchasing policy so climate change can be a factor that the city can consider when it evaluates proposals from applicants who want to be the city’s next servicing bank. We have reached a pivotal point in this effort. The Flagstaff City Council will discuss proposed amendments to the procurement code at its work session on MAY 28th at 3:00 at city hall. Please come to the meeting and advocate for changes to the procurement code that allows for consideration of the applicant’s record on climate and future commitment to stemming the tide of deadly fossil fuel emissions.
