A River Reborn: The Restoration of Fossil Creek - Monday, May 12 @ 7pm

A River Reborn: The Restoration of Fossil Creek is a remarkable documentary of the natural and human history of Arizona’s Fossil Creek. The hour-long film examines the ecological effects of a 100-year-old dam and hydroelectric facility, and highlights the initial conflict and ultimate human collaboration that led to restoration of a beautiful desert stream.

The restoration of Fossil Creek is emblematic of far-reaching change in our approach to environmental challenges. Today, people in all parts of the world are reassessing the use of precious water resources. They seek to balance short-term fulfillment of human needs with long-term protection of natural systems that support human life. Fossil Creek is a focal point for this reassessment. It reveals both challenges and opportunities associated with riparian restoration and provides a model for solving environmental conflicts.

The film, previously shown on AZ PBS, features scientists from Northern Arizona University and is narrated by the star of many TV shows and screen series - and Flagstaff-raised - Ted Danson. The Executive Producer of the film, Dr. Stefan Sommer of the Center for Adaptable Western Landscapes at Northern Arizona University and the Northern Arizona Climate Change Alliance, and two researchers featured in the film, will join us for the discussion following the film.
