Speaker Series: Stop the Money Pipeline

  • Virtually via Zoom (map)

Stop the Money Pipeline

With increasing intensity and sophistication, a great diversity of climate activists are targeting the institutional investors, asset managers, corporate banks, and insurance companies upon which the fossil fuel industry depends for its day-to-day operations and disastrous expansion projects. In plain language, I will talk about this diverse and growing global movement, offer some assessments of its current and potential impact, and discuss what we are doing locally and how you can lend your support.

Kim Curtis is Professor Emerita of the interdisciplinary Sustainable Communities Program at Northern Arizona University with a Ph.D. in Political Theory focused on public life, democracy, and social movements. In December 2021, she founded Fossil Free Arizona! Whose mission is to do everything possible to stop the money pipeline to the fossil fuel industry and the banks and insurance companies that enable it. She taught grassroots community organizing skills to generations of students, and from early anti-nuclear activism to more recent immigrant rights activism, she has been organizing in communities and with social movements for most of her life.
