URGE CITY COUNCIL to "VOTE NO" on NAH PROPOSAL

  • Flagstaff City Hall 211 West Aspen Avenue Flagstaff, AZ, 86001 United States (map)

City Council meeting suggests that Council may vote in favor of NAH's proposal on May 16th, reversing years of progress on Flagstaff's carbon footprint. Please send your comment to City Council today and submit it as a letter-to-the-editor to the Daily Sun.

The $ 1 billion NAH new hospital proposal is dirty!

Flagstaff's Regional Plan calls for net zero emissions by 2030.

- If City Council votes favor this plan, they will reverse years of progress on Flagstaff's carbon footprint.

- If City Council approves this plan, they will set a precedent that future development proposals do not need to adhere to Flagstaff's Regional Plan.

  • Flagstaff's Regional Plan calls for net zero emissions by 2030.

  • Flagstaff's Regional Plan requires that any new developments "help" the City reach its carbon neutrality goal.

  • The NAH proposal will likely have an annual operations carbon footprint of 20,000 metric tons of CO2.

  • The construction industry accounts for 38% of the US carbon footprint; how much CO2 will the NAH construction produce?

  • Other healthcare systems have recently become carbon neutral: https://www.hfmmagazine.com/articles/4274-hospitals-reduce-their-carbon-footprints-with-sustainable-solutions

  • The City Council should require the same from NAH.
